Women's Soccer Announces Team Awards

The Maryville women’s soccer team recently hosted its year-end banquet and announced team awards for the 2011 season.

Junior defender Kristin Scherer was selected the team’s Most Valuable Player. She helped the Saints defense post four shutouts and surrender just one goal in two other games.  Freshmen Cydney Robertson and Jen Jung shared the Newcomer of the Year. Robertson started all 17 games and led the team in scoring with six goals and 13 points. Jung was a key defender on the squad and played in 16 games, earning 13 starts. Senior Mindy Tremmel was chosen by the coaching staff for the “Coaches Award.” One of just four seniors on the squad, her leadership was invaluable to the team.

Junior Sam Poteet was named the team’s Best Defender. She earned a starting assignment on 13 occasions, saw action in all 17 games and scored one goal. Junior goalie Jena Casagrande earned Most Improved Player award. She recorded two wins on the season, including back-to-back shutouts of Missouri S&T and Drury, and finished with a 1.58 GAA. Sophomore Renni Stone earned the “Golden Shinguard/Captain’s Award.”
