Saginaw Valley-Maryville boxscore in PDF
The Maryville baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally for a 4-3 victory Monday over Saginaw Valley State. Corey Gall singled with one out in the inning to score Kyle Kinyon with the game-winning run as the Saints picked up their second victory of the season. Gall drove in two runs and scored another for Maryville.
Saginaw Valley State scored single runs in the top of the first and second before Maryville responded by pushing across a tally in the bottom of the second. Kinyon drew a leadoff walk, and Bob Miller singled to put the first two runners aboard. Mike Wilkinson put down a sac bunt to move the runners up one base. Gall drove in Maryville’s first run with an RBI groundout to short. The Cardinals scored one run in the fifth, but the Saints matched that tally in the bottom half of the inning as Gall again played a part in the score. He walked and Daniel Barnett also worked a free pass. Colby White laced a single to load the bases for the Saints. SVSU uncorked a wild pitch as Gall sprinted home.
The Cardinals still led 3-2 until the Saints pieced together the game-winning rally. Bryce Bastien led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk and took third on Kinyon’s single to center. Aaron Asher came on as a pinch hitter and smashed a single to center to tie the game at 3-3. Wilkinson worked a walk to load the bases setting up Gall for the game winner. Gall drilled a ball to center as Kinyon dashed home with the winning run.
Patrick Jacobs shutdown the Cardinals (1-4) in order in the ninth and did not allow a hit over the final four innings.
