Men's Basketball Announces Team Awards

The Maryville University men’s basketball program announced its team awards for the 2011-12 season. The selections were made via a vote of the squad’s players and coaches.
 
Sophomore guard Asa Toney was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player. He led the Saints in scoring at 12.3 ppg, assists with 75 and steals with 39. Toney was third on the team with 41 3-pointers. Ryan Shotkoski earned the Saints Award, which goes to the player who embodies the seven Pillars of Maryville, after averaging 4.6 ppg to go along with 64 assists and 29 steals while shooting 50 percent from the field.

Kevin Kimber was selected for the Coaches’ Award for hard work, positive attitude and dedication to the program. Jacob Dulle earned the Senior Award, while Armon Provo earned the Newcomer Award. Provo finished third on the team in scoring at 10.6 ppg, was second in assists (65), steals (38) and 3-pointers made (51), while shooting 42.5 percent from beyond the arc and 80.3 percent at the free-throw line.

The Saints finished the season 13-14 and qualified for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. Maryville started the year 4-0 for the first time in program history.
