Women’s Basketball Ranked 16th in WBCA Academic Top 25

The Maryville University women's basketball team ranked 16th in the nation in 2011-12 by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association for the Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll as announced by the WBCA today. The Saints have ranked in the Academic Top 25 for five straight years and eight times in the last nine seasons. Maryville posted a 3.507 team GPA this past season.

"We are honored to be recognized by the WBCA as one of the nation’s top academic NCAA Division II women’s basketball programs," Maryville head women’s basketball coach Chris Ellis said. "This is especially significant due to the high percentage of student-athletes on our roster we have in highly rigorous academic majors."

Maryville was one of four Great Lakes Valley Conference schools on the WBCA list, joining Drury, Rockhurst and Wisconsin-Parkside. The Saints were one of 11 schools in the Academic Top 25 that also qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament this season.

The Saints ranked as high as first in the nation in 2008-09 with their 3.625 GPA.
