Evansville, Ind. - After storming to the title game of the 2014 Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship as the No. 8 seed, the magic ran out for the Maryville women's basketball team as No. 7 seed Truman State used a late 8-0 run to down the Saints 58-45 Sunday afternoon at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.

The Saints held a 12-8 lead before a
Shelby Miller layup and a wing jumper by
Joann Thompson built a 16-8 lead. Truman State scored eight straight to tie the game before a
Rita Flynn layup handed Maryville an 18-16 advantage. The Saints still were up 28-27 before tallying the last four points of the half on two Lorton free throws and a bucket by
Breann Baker for a 32-27 lead at halftime.

Maryville was up 34-29 before six straight points gave TSU a 35-34 lead with 14:31 remaining in the game. Lorton sank two at the stripe and Thompson sank a jumper for a 38-35 Maryville lead. The Saints still held a 42-39 cushion before the Bulldogs scored eight straight for a 47-42 margin. Miller hit a deep 3-pointer from the right wing to pull the Saints to 47-45 with 4:52 to play but that would prove to be the final points for Maryville as Truman State pulled away to secure its first GLVC Tournament win in its first season in the league.

Lorton led the Saints with a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Miller, who was voted to the GLVC All-Tournament team, finished with 10 points. Nicole Gloor paced Truman State (22-8) players in double figures with 16 points. The Saints held TSU to 31.1 percent shooting but tied their season high of 23 turnovers.
