Box Score Kansas City, MO – The Maryville men's soccer teams season came to an end as Rockhurst scored a goal in the first half and then added a pair of goals in the second half to defeat the Saints 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championships Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.
The Hawks (15-2-1), the sixth ranked team in Division II, kept play in their attacking end for most of the first half and it paid off as Kaleb Jackson headed in a cross from 6-yards out on the right wing to give Rockhurst a 1-0 in the 32
nd minute. The Hawks outshot Maryville 10-2 with six of those shots being on frame and Saints goalkeeper Chrsitian Kjaersgaard turning away five shots.
Rockhurst received an insurance goal in the 61
st minute as Gianluca Bottoni drilled a shot from 27-yards out on the left wing to take a 2-0 lead. Bottoni added his second goal of the day in the 65
th minute from 18-yards out to stake the Hawks to a 3-0 lead.
Maryville ends the season with a record of 10-8-1, which is the best record for a Saints men's soccer team since the team in 2000 went 11-7-0.
