Romeoville, Ill. - In the quarterfinals of the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, the #4W seeded Maryville Saints were edged 5-3 by #1E seed Lewis at Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.

The Saints grabbed the first point of the match when Cara Rickert and Sara Etter won their No. 3 doubles match by an 8-2 score. The Flyers bounced back by taking the remaining two doubles matches for a narrow 2-1 edge moving to the singles contests. Kine Kleppe cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the number six slot to tie the match. Lucy Horbatowski pushed the Saints ahead with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5. The Saints were unable to build on their 3-2 lead as the host Flyers won the singles matches at the top three slots for a 5-3 victory.

The Saints end their season with a 7-10 record, while the Flyers, who are ranked sixth in the Midwest region, advance to the semifinals with a 16-4 slate.
