Softball Saints Eliminated at GLVC Tournament in Extra-Innings by UMSL

East Peoria, Ill. - The Maryville softball team had its run at the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament end in an extra-innings loss to the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The No. 2 seeded Tritons pushed across four runs in the top of the eighth inning to eliminate the fourth-seeded Saints 5-1.

The Saints put their leadoff runner aboard the first three innings against UMSL All-American Hannah Perryman but were unable to tally a run. Nikki Taylor made it four straight leadoff hitters to reach as she launched a towering solo home run to left field to give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Maryville maintained that 1-0 edge until the Tritons scored a run in the top of the sixth. The Saints had a chance to win it in the bottom of the seventh. Alex Flasch singled down the line in right, and she moved into scoring position on Casey Ward's single. However, the Saints stranded both runners to force extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Alex Stupek hit a solo homer to boost the Tritons to a 2-1 lead. UMSL tacked on three unearned runs to extend its advantage to 5-1 and break open the pitcher's duel. Taylor recorded her second extra-base hit of the game with a double down the line in right but the Saints would not score again.

The Saints see their record fall to 37-14. The Tritons, who are ranked sixth nationally, improve to 50-6.
