East Peoria, Ill. -  In the opening game of the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in East Peoria, Ill., the Maryville softball team dropped a 6-1 decision versus Truman State. The Saints will play William Jewell at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.
 
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when the Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 on a solo home run. Cate Simon tacked on a three-run homer for a 4-0 Truman lead. Wendy Macias hit a solo blast to right center to get the Saints on the scoreboard and trim the deficit to 4-1. However, Simon hit another home run in the top of the sixth inning to seal the victory. The Saints outhit the Bulldogs 8-6 but only scored the one run on Macias' blast. Ashley Marks, Nikki Taylor and Alex Flasch all had two hits on the day.
 
The Saints drop to 36-13 on the season, while Truman State improves to 29-16.
